Puck Bay is the western part of the Gulf of Gdańsk, sheltered from the open sea by the Hel Peninsula. It covers about 364 km² and is among the shallowest waters of the Polish Baltic. It divides into an inner part, cut off by the sandy shoal of the Ryf Mew bar, and an outer part — deeper and more open to the waves.
The inner part of the bay belongs to the Coastal Landscape Park, and the whole body of water is a special protection area for birds. Shallow water that warms quickly and extensive underwater meadows create conditions for birds, which gather here above all during migration and wintering. The shores vary between reed beds, coastal meadows and sandy beaches.
Shallow water and steady wind have made the bay the most popular kitesurfing and windsurfing area in Poland; schools and rentals operate in Puck, Rewa, Chałupy and Jastarnia, among others. A cycle route runs along the shore, linking the seaside towns.
