A long lake in the Pisz Forest

Lake Nidzkie stretches for more than a dozen kilometres south of Ruciane-Nida, in the heart of the Pisz Forest in Masuria. It has the narrow shape of a ribbon lake and an exceptionally developed shoreline with numerous bays and peninsulas. Pine forest surrounds almost the entire shore, which is why the lake is regarded as one of the wildest in Masuria.

Protection and nature

The southern part of the lake, together with a belt of shoreline forest, forms the Jezioro Nidzkie landscape reserve, where motorboat traffic is restricted. This preserves the quiet and favours birdwatching — white-tailed eagles can be seen over the water.

Sailing and surroundings

Nidzkie connects with the Great Masurian Lakes route through Ruciane-Nida and the Guzianka lock, so both sailors and kayakers come here. On the shore stands the Pranie forester's lodge, linked with the poet Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński and now a museum devoted to him.
