A post-mining reservoir in Dąbrowa Górnicza

Lake Pogoria II was created by flooding a former sand pit and lies in Dąbrowa Górnicza, in the Silesian Voivodeship, between the neighbouring reservoirs of the Pogoria chain. Together they form a belt of water and nature areas in the north of the city, easily reached from the surrounding housing estates.

Ecological site and silence zone

The reservoir is protected as an ecological site and a silence zone has been designated around it. Swimming and resting on the shore are prohibited, and the area serves mainly for observing nature. Reed beds, grasslands, thickets and riparian forests grow here, and among the aquatic plants you can find yellow water lily and white water lily.

Birds and wildlife

The greatest asset of the place is its birdlife — herons, penduline tits and kingfishers feed and nest here. The fish fauna is rich as well, as is the range of fungi, including the rare Mutinus ravenelii. Paths run around the reservoir, making it easy to walk or cycle the full loop.
