The oldest reservoir of the Pogoria chain

Lake Pogoria I lies in Dąbrowa Górnicza, in the Silesian Voivodeship. It was created in 1943 by flooding a worked-out sand pit and is the oldest body of water in the Pogoria chain of reservoirs. In the communist era the shores were developed with holiday centres, which to this day provide the accommodation base of the lake.

Beaches and water sports

A municipal beach and bathing areas belonging to the holiday centres operate by the water, along with catering facilities. The lake has attracted sailors since the 1950s — clubs and training centres work on its shores. Kayaking and angling are popular too, and in summer the traffic concentrates around the beach.

Nature and walks

The reservoir has been designated an ecological site, so alongside its recreational role its natural assets are protected: waterfowl and wading birds, fish and aquatic vegetation. Walking and cycling paths run around the lake and lead on to the neighbouring reservoirs.
