A small lake in the heart of Puńsk

Lake Punia, also known as Puńsk, lies within the village of Puńsk in Sejny County, in the Suwałki region. It is a small body of water covering some 15 hectares, with a maximum depth of nearly seven metres. Its banks adjoin the built-up area directly, which makes the lake a natural landmark of the village.

Good to know

The water is prone to degradation and there is no managed bathing area, so the lake is best explored from the shore. A walk around it takes a few dozen minutes and offers a view of the typical borderland landscape: meadows, groves and scattered farmsteads.

The surroundings

Puńsk is the main centre of the Lithuanian minority in Poland – cultural institutions operate here, and the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary rises above the lake. Folk festivals and Midsummer Night celebrations take place in summer. Agritourism farms operate in the area.
