A lake within Augustów

Lake Rospuda Augustowska lies within the boundaries of Augustów, in the Suwałki region. The basin covers about 104 ha, connects with Lake Necko and receives the Rospuda river from the north. Its shores are surrounded by the woods of the Augustów Primeval Forest, so this urban lake has kept a quiet, forest character.

Protection and silence on the water

The lake forms part of the „Dolina Rospudy” Protected Landscape Area and a silence zone applies on the water — craft with combustion engines are banned. This favours paddlers: the well-known Rospuda river kayak route ends here. Cyclists have a blue trail running along the river valley.

Rest by the water

Several holiday centres operate by the lake, and the area is full of private rooms, agritourism farms, cottages and campsites. Passenger boats of Żegluga Augustowska sail on Necko and Rospuda, as do gondolas and catamarans. The „Goła Zośka” centre offers a guarded beach and space for a campfire and a picnic.
