Zalew Chechło, Chrzanów
Jezioro Chechelskie, also known as the Chechło reservoir, lies in Chrzanów County in Lesser Poland, between Chrzanów, Trzebinia and Piła Kościelecka. Created in 1964, it covers around 54 hectares and stretches for a kilometre and a half; it is fed by the Chechło River and the Młoszówka stream.
A supervised swimming area operates in the summer season, and holiday centres and private rooms line the shores. Boats can be hired, and paths through the pine woods lead all the way round the water. The reservoir is a popular weekend destination for residents of western Lesser Poland and nearby Silesia.
The surroundings are rich in marsh vegetation and hold orchids and protected species such as the Siberian iris and the autumn crocus. Birdwatchers can spot great reed warbler, coot, great crested grebe and little bittern, while the mammals include European beaver, water vole and muskrat.
