The Gdynia Aquarium on the South Pier

The Gdynia Oceanarium, officially the Gdynia Aquarium, is a facility of the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute that works both as a museum and as a zoological garden. It stands on the South Pier, a few steps from the sailing ships „Dar Pomorza” and „Dar Młodzieży”, in the heart of tourist Gdynia.

What you will see inside

The exhibition leads through successive zones of the underwater world: a coral reef with colourful fish and invertebrates, Amazon tanks, tropical aquariums with turtles, and a Baltic hall showing the fauna of Puck Bay and its eelgrass meadows. Around one and a half thousand species are presented in all, complemented by shell collections and educational displays.

For families and any weather

The aquarium runs educational classes and shows, and during the holidays also science meetings with microscope observation and film screenings. The whole visit is indoors, which makes it a good idea for a rainy day. There is a car park right by the building.
