Kąty 12, Wieś Sromowce Wyżne
Rafting through the Dunajec Gorge on wooden rafts is the best-known attraction of the Pieniny Mountains. The trip starts at the raftsmen's wharf in Sromowce-Kąty, where the river winds in tight bends between the limestone walls of Pieniny National Park, the highest of which rise almost three hundred metres above the water.
The rafts are steered by raftsmen in regional costume, who pole along and talk about the peaks and legends of the Pieniny on the way. Two routes are available: a shorter one finishing in Szczawnica and a longer one ending in Krościenko. In places the current speeds up over shallows, so getting splashed is easy — bring a spare layer.
Trips run seasonally, from spring to autumn; in winter they are not organised for nature protection reasons. A large paid car park and a food outlet operate at the wharf in Kąty. The trip is one-way, so the return to your vehicle needs separate planning. The area is a good base — Trzy Korony and Czorsztyn are close by.
