The Semafor model railway occupies the first floor of the railway station in Tarnowskie Góry, a town whose history has always been tied to transport and mining. The display covers around 200 square metres and forms a coherent miniature world of tracks, buildings and figures of its inhabitants.
Models of steam, diesel and electric locomotives built to 1:32 scale, based on products of the German firm Märklin, run along nearly 300 metres of track. The trains pull goods wagons, some of which carry sweets for children instead of cargo. After dark the layout lights up windows, street lamps and the trains themselves.
Small platforms stand beside the layout so that younger visitors can see the whole scene, and in the interactive zone you can set a train in motion yourself. The display is indoors, so it works in any weather, and a visit usually takes about an hour. The entrance leads straight from the station hall.
