Footbridge over the Narew wetlands

A wooden footbridge more than a kilometre long crosses the Narew wetlands inside Narwiański National Park, linking the villages of Waniewo and Śliwno in the Podlasie region. It is the best known nature trail of the so-called Polish Amazon — a marshy valley where the river splits into dozens of channels and reed beds.

Crossings and the viewing tower

This is no ordinary boardwalk. The chain of walkways is broken by five movable platforms that visitors pull across themselves using a rope on a winch — the crossing is simple and part of the fun. On the site of a former stronghold stands a small viewing tower with a panorama of the wetlands reaching to the horizon. Bring binoculars: the valley is one of the country's finest places to watch water and marsh birds.

Visiting

The walk starts in Waniewo, where a tourist information point operates at the entrance, or from the other side in Śliwno. One way takes about half an hour. The surface is even but narrow, and the movable platforms require assistance with a pushchair.
