Park Sportowy Imienia Juliana Zawadowskiego, Krynica-Zdrój
Sankostrada is one of the longest toboggan runs in Poland, set in Krynica-Zdrój at the foot of Mount Iwonka, right next to the ice rink on Park Sportowy street. The facility operates all year round — the sleds run in a metal chute, so no snow is needed.
The complex is about a kilometre long, and the descent itself runs through a chute of nearly 800 metres. The difference in height between the upper and the lower station is 55 metres. The sleds reach over 40 km/h, but the speed is controlled with a brake lever — which is why the run is used both by children accompanied by adults and by those after stronger thrills.
Rides also take place after dark, with the run lit up; such descents are ordered in advance. Sankostrada lies within walking distance of the promenade and the pump room, so it is easy to combine with sightseeing in the spa town. A single descent lasts a few minutes, and a whole visit usually about half an hour.
