Wigry seen from the deck

Cruises on Lake Wigry set off from below the former Camaldolese monastery in the village of Wigry, in the heart of the Wigry National Park in the Suwałki region. The lake lies within a quiet zone, so the only motor-powered vessel allowed on these waters is the boat „Tryton”. It was adapted for the visit of Pope John Paul II, who came to Wigry and sailed on the lake.

What you see from the water

Wigry is one of the deepest and most intricately shaped lakes in Poland — from the deck one bay, peninsula and forested island opens after another. Cormorants and grey herons nest along the shores, and the panorama of the monastery rising above the water is among the region's most recognisable views.

Good to know

Besides sightseeing cruises the operator offers themed trips combined with a meal, a tasting of smoked fish or a ride on the narrow-gauge railway or in a horse-drawn carriage. Tickets are bought near the monastery; admission to the national park is charged separately.
