By handcar through the Białowieża Forest

Białowieskie Drezyny run along a disused railway line near Białowieża, on the edge of the Białowieża Forest. The departure point is at the former goods station. The vehicles are powered by hand, exactly as railway workers did at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when handcars were used to inspect the tracks.

Routes

Four colour-coded variants are available: green, orange, red and blue. The shortest ride takes about an hour, the longest up to three hours. The blue route runs after dusk, giving a completely different picture of the forest — the sounds of the night woods instead of views. Organised groups may hire a handcar on their own terms and set the course of the ride.

Who it suits

The ride combines light physical effort with watching nature: anyone willing can take a turn at the drive lever. It is a good option for families with children and a complement to visiting Białowieża and the forest reserves.
