A gateway to the Masurian waterways

Żegluga Ostródzko-Elbląska runs passenger cruises from the marina in Ostróda, where the waterways of Warmia, Masuria and Żuławy meet. Its main asset is the Elbląg Canal, a historic waterway some 84 km long — close to 151 km including its branches — listed as a monument of history and named among the seven wonders of Poland.

A ship across the grass

Between Ostróda and Elbląg vessels overcome the difference in levels not through locks but on five inclined planes: Buczyniec, Kąty, Oleśnica, Jelenie and Całuny. The boat rides onto a rail cradle and travels overland, which gave the trip its popular name, “a ship across the grass”. Two locks, at Miłomłyn and Zielona, complete the route.

Choice of routes

Besides the full-day passage of the whole canal, which runs past the bird reserve on Lake Druzno, the operator offers shorter options: the two inclined planes route, cruises on Lake Drwęckie and Szeląg, and themed trips. A passenger ship or a motorboat can also be chartered.
