Kayaking the upper Warta

The Warta is Poland's third longest river, and its upper stretch near Częstochowa counts among the finer kayaking routes in the region. The trail from Częstochowa to the border of the Silesian province was marked out in 2020. The main starting point is at the Warta embankment, close to Mirowska street.

Along the route

The first stretch crosses the Eagles' Nests Landscape Park, between Mstów and Wancerzów; despite the portages it is the most scenic part, with the Mirów Gorge running for over a dozen kilometres. Further on, hydroelectric plants force kayaks out of the water, and past the mouth of the Wiercica the river flows calmly through forest.

Who it suits

The route works as a full-day trip, also with children, provided the group accepts the portages. Paddlers pass through the Załęcze Landscape Park and the Warta and Widawka Landscape Park, and the trip can be extended by joining the Liswarta.
