Rafts through the Poprad valley

The trip starts in Piwniczna-Zdrój in the Beskid Sądecki range, at the landing below the suspension bridge, and ends in Rytro next to the sports field. The route is about 10 km long and is covered on traditional raftsmen's boats steered by local rafters.

The river and the landscape

The Poprad is a mountain river that begins on the southern side of the Carpathians and, unusually, cuts across the main ridge on its way to the Baltic basin. Its valley carves between the Radziejowa and Jaworzyna Krynicka ranges, forming gorges and wide meanders. From the boat you see steep wooded slopes and hamlets along the bank.

Good to know

The trip usually lasts from one and a half to two and a half hours, depending on the water level. Rafting runs from spring to autumn and can be called off when the river is low or after heavy rain, so it is worth confirming the date with the organiser. Piwniczna-Zdrój is a spa town with a mineral water pump room and a good base for the Beskid Sądecki.
