A waterside recreation area in Sosnowiec

Rybaczówka, also called „Wygoda”, is a recreation and angling centre in the Niwka district, between Radocha and Modrzejów. The access road runs from Powstańców street and the site lies on the Old Borderland Trail, so a visit combines easily with sightseeing in the Dąbrowa Basin.

Post-industrial history

The reservoir was laid out on the grounds of the former KWK Niwka-Modrzejów coal mine at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. The work was done by anglers of the Niwka fishing club, who looked after the site until 1998, when the municipality of Sosnowiec took over.

Fishing and relaxation

The water holds carp, crucian carp, roach, bream, perch, ide, tench and pike. Several dozen fishing stands are available, including one adapted for wheelchair users. There are shelters and a fire pit on site, as well as bicycle racks — the centre is a frequent stop on the route from Park Tysiąclecia to the Three Emperors’ Corner. Fairs and family picnics are held here in summer.
