The start of the Dunajec gorge raft trip

The raftsmen's wharf in Sromowce-Kąty, a hamlet of Sromowce Wyżne, is the place where traditional rafts set off into the Dunajec gorge. It is run by raftsmen of the Polish Association of Pieniny Raftsmen, who are happy to explain the history and rules of their trade. Even from the wharf itself there is a view of the Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) massif in the Pieniny range.

Route and duration

The shorter variant ends in Szczawnica after about 18 km, the longer one continues 5 km further, to Krościenko nad Dunajcem. Depending on the length of the section and the weather, the trip takes two to three hours. From the deck of the raft you see the limestone walls of the Pieniny, the tight meanders of the river and rocky crags that no hiking trail reaches.

Good to know

The rafting season runs from early April to the end of October, and the rafts operate daily except on Easter Sunday and Corpus Christi. At the wharf there are ticket offices, a tourist information point, an exhibition pavilion of the Pieniny National Park, a souvenir kiosk and a restaurant. Parking is also available.
