A year-round rink in the heart of Janów

The Jantor ice rink operates in the Katowice district of Janów, right next to the famous red-brick mining estate of Nikiszowiec. The hall was built for local residents, who lacked a place for active recreation after hard shifts underground. Today the venue is run by the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre in Katowice, and the covered rink is open all year, regardless of the weather outside.

Who skates here

Jantor is not only about public skating sessions for families and tourists. The Naprzód Janów ice hockey team trains and plays its matches here, and figure skaters use the ice while preparing for the winter season. Club training and public sessions are separated in the timetable, so it is worth checking the current schedule before arriving — especially at weekends and during school holidays, when attendance peaks.

While you are here

The rink combines well with sightseeing in the area. It lies a few minutes from Nikiszowiec, one of the best preserved workers' housing estates in Europe, and from leafy Giszowiec. For motorhome travellers it makes a convenient stop for an active break in the city, with ice available even in summer.
