Gruszki, Wieś Guszczewina
The Nature and Forest Education Park in Gruszki is run by the Browsk Forest District, on land neighbouring the Białowieża Forest in the Hajnówka county. The site combines a nature education centre with an open-air park where nature is presented not on boards in a classroom but along trails, among the tree stands typical of this part of Podlasie.
The grounds are divided into educational trails devoted to the forest, its inhabitants and forest management. At the heart of the layout is a herbarium — a collection of plants arranged so that species can be studied in the living state. The centre has a space for field classes, an exhibition of forest flora and fauna, and room for occasional nature and art displays.
It is best to spread the visit over stages and alternate walking with watching from the shelters set up beside the small pond — the chances of seeing birds and animals are highest in the morning and evening. Admission is free and dogs on a lead are allowed. Organised groups should contact the forest district in advance.
