A park in a former quarry

Park Gródek – Arboretum lies in the northern part of Jaworzno, in the Pieczyska district, on the site of a disused dolomite quarry. Once extraction ended, the pits filled with water and formed two reservoirs: Gródek and Wydra. Their azure colour and the steep, pale rock walls earned the place nicknames such as Silesian Croatia or the Polish Maldives.

What to see

The grounds are opened up by a network of surfaced paths and boardwalks running along the shores. They pass the arboretum plantings, a flower meadow and a viewpoint overlooking the water. Shelters set along the route allow a rest in the shade. The reservoir is a diving base – excavators sunk on the bottom gave the local diving marina its name.

Who it suits

The routes are gentle and mostly wheelchair accessible, so the park works well for a walk with children and with a dog. Swimming in the reservoirs is not allowed – the water is deep and cold and the banks are steep in places. Entry to the park is free.
