The Park-Arboretum in Gołuchów lies in the Pleszew district, a dozen or so kilometres south-east of Kalisz, around the well-known Działyński castle. It is one of the largest and oldest English-style gardens in Poland and takes in a picturesque stretch of the Ciemna river valley some three kilometres long.
The park was laid out in the nineteenth century on the initiative of Izabella Działyńska, née Czartoryska, and Count Jan Działyński. Its dendrological collections include numerous species of trees and shrubs, among them specimens recognised as natural monuments. The site is managed by the Forest Culture Centre, which also runs a demonstration animal enclosure and educational activities.
Walking paths and educational trails with interpretive boards lead through the grounds, describing the tree stand and the habitats of the valley. Besides protected plants, visitors can watch birds, amphibians and reptiles tied to wet meadows and old-growth woodland. A walk combines easily with a visit to the castle and museum in Gołuchów.
