Park Cytadela stretches across Winiary Hill just north of Poznań's old town and is the largest green area in the city. It occupies the grounds of the former Prussian Fort Winiary, a 19th-century stronghold gradually turned into a park after the war. Today it is a place for walking, running, cycling and rollerblading, with wide lawns for picnics.
Surviving fortifications include Ravelin I, Redoubt I, the northern gate, Bastion II and the viaducts of the Small and Great Sluice. Restored casemates house the Museum of Armaments and the Poznań Army Museum. The park also contains war cemeteries: Polish, Soviet and Commonwealth.
Outdoor sculptures stand among the trees, including the famous figures by Magdalena Abakanowicz and works by Michał Gąsienica-Szostak, Jerzy Sobociński and Julian Boss-Gosławski. The rosarium and the amphitheatre, which hosts summer concerts, are also worth attention.
