A sanctuary in Rudy

The Basilica of Our Lady of Humility stands in the village of Rudy in Upper Silesia, within the complex of a former Cistercian abbey. The church is one of the key stops on the Cistercian Route and a destination for pilgrims from all over Poland and from abroad.

What to see

The heart of the church is the 13th-century image of Our Lady of Rudy, crowned in 1999 with crowns blessed by John Paul II. Relics of the True Cross, of Saint Valentine and of Saint Karolina Kózka are kept here. The interior combines the medieval layout of a Cistercian building with later furnishings.

Good to know

Sightseeing takes place outside services, and during Marian celebrations the church fills with pilgrims. It adjoins the monastery buildings and a park, so a visit is easily combined with a walk around the whole complex.
