Bażantarnia is a vast forest park on the edge of Elbląg, at the foot of the Elbląg Upland, covering some 369 hectares. It is a short walk from the city centre, and its terrain — steep hills, ravines and incised stream valleys — resembles a foothill landscape rather than a typical urban park.
Walking, cycling and riding paths run through the park and are used by cross-country skiers in winter. The busiest route follows the valley of the Srebrny Potok stream, passing small bridges and wooden footbridges. Beside it lies the legendary Diabelski Kamień (Devil's Stone) with a hollow said to be the imprint of a devil's paw.
Beech and hornbeam dominate the tree stand, and in spring the undergrowth blooms with species typical of fertile beech woods. Patient observers spot roe deer, foxes and wild boar, while birds can be heard here all year. Entry is free and unrestricted, though the steep climbs make pushchair access difficult.
