The Kabaty Forest, named after Stefan Starzyński, is a large woodland complex in the southern part of Warsaw, in the Ursynów district, protected as a nature reserve. For the capital's residents it is the nearest big stretch of natural land — the housing estates run right up to the forest edge.
Protection covers both the landscape and the tree stand, which includes more than a dozen natural monuments. The terrain is mostly flat and criss-crossed by a dense network of forest roads; the exception is the eastern part, where the woods climb a section of the Warsaw Escarpment and offer the first real ascents. Educational nature trails describe the local flora and fauna.
You may only move along the marked routes — this is a reserve, not a city park. A walk here combines well with the Botanical Garden of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Powsin and the adjoining Park Kultury.
