Blachówka Quarry lies where Bytom meets Tarnowskie Góry, in a district shaped by former ore mining. Iron ore was extracted here first, later dolomite; once the works ended, nature reclaimed the pit. Today it is a broad hollow with steep rock walls, ringed by forest and protected as a documentation site.
The underground workings of the old mine form one of the largest bat hibernation sites in Poland — long-eared bats, Myotis species and serotines spend the winter here. The area belongs to the Natura 2000 network, and the exposed quarry walls reveal a profile of Triassic rock. The related complex of Tarnowskie Góry underground workings is inscribed on the UNESCO list.
Visiting is limited to a marked path along the rim of the pit — leaving the trail is dangerous because of loose, falling rock. The mine remains, adits and galleries are not open to visitors. Access is unrestricted, with no ticket office or staff on site.
