Bażantarnia is an extensive ecological site of almost forty hectares in the Bańgów district of Siemianowice Śląskie. The name refers to former pheasant breeding, but today it is above all a natural, wooded walking area on the edge of a densely built-up conurbation.
Roe deer, wild boar, foxes, hares and weasels live in the woodland, while blackbirds, orioles, cuckoos, starlings and nightingales can be heard among the treetops. The pond called „Rzęsa” forms the heart of the site and attracts most of the foot traffic. A nature trail with thirteen stops explains the local flora and fauna.
The area is open to walkers, runners and cyclists via a network of surfaced and unsurfaced paths, and admission remains free. A local story links the place with Napoleon's soldiers, said to have camped here during their retreat from Moscow.
