Podgórze, Kraków
Wojciech Bednarski Park fills the hollow of a disused limestone quarry in Kraków's Podgórze district, a quarter of an hour's walk from Podgórski Square. It owes its existence to Wojciech Bednarski, a councillor and social activist who persuaded the city to turn the neglected pit into public greenery.
The grounds fall into a neoclassical part with regular avenues and a more freely arranged modernist one. Exposed rock faces closing the park off on the south side, terraces and views over the city catch the eye. In places the vegetation has been deliberately left wild, which attracts many nesting birds. The municipal parks authority offers an outdoor game, „Podgórze yesterday and today”, in the „Kraków w zieleni” app.
A good stop for a short rest while exploring Podgórze. There is a playground and a football pitch, so the place works well with children; dogs are welcome.
