Grota Park in Sucha Góra

Galmanowa, Bytom

A park on former mining ground

Grota Park lies in Sucha Góra, in the northern part of Bytom, on land once used for ore extraction. Galena was mined here first, later calamine; the area was reclaimed in the 1970s and opened to residents as a recreational space.

Ponds and paths

Two water bodies, Grota and Galman, form the axis of the grounds. The banks of the first are developed: a walking and cycling path runs around them, with benches and picnic spots. Galman was left in a more natural state, with overgrown shores.

Who it suits

This is a place for a quiet walk, for play with children and for angling — both ponds are stocked regularly, so anglers fishing for carp, pike, crucian carp and grass carp are an almost permanent sight. Admission is free and dogs are welcome.
