Aleja Walecznych, Kalisz
The city park in Kalisz was laid out in 1798 and is regarded as the oldest Polish municipal park entered in the register of monuments. It covers more than 24 hectares in the town centre, in the fork of the Prosna, the Swędrnia and the canals, which gives it a strikingly picturesque setting.
Among the best known features are the Kogutek pond, the sundial, Asnyk's oak and the building of the former Foerster confectionery. The “Hydropatia”, a Tyrolean-style house that once served as a hydrotherapy establishment, also draws attention. Of the pre-war set of sculptures only the “Flora” survives.
The layout of the alleys and the closeness of the market square make the park a natural stop while sightseeing in Kalisz. It works for a short rest or a walk with children or a dog, and the main routes are paved and passable with a pushchair.
