Show gardens in Dobrzyca

The Hortulus Spectabilis Gardens lie in Dobrzyca in the Będzino commune, a dozen or so kilometres from Koszalin. The complex of show gardens holds the world's largest hornbeam maze and the northernmost dendrological collection in Poland.

The maze and the viewing tower

Eighteen thousand hornbeams were planted on a single hectare, and the maze paths together run to over three kilometres. Three routes are on offer, 396, 924 and 1003 metres long, all leading to the central square with a viewing tower. Its steel structure with two spiral flights of stairs echoes the shape of a DNA strand, and the platform hangs 18 m above the gardens.

The surroundings

Next door are the Gardens of Magic, Energy, Time and Space, so a visit can easily be extended. The ground is flat and the paths paved and accessible with a pushchair. The site is seasonal — it is at its best during the growing season.
