A park around Chopin's birthplace

The park in Żelazowa Wola surrounds the manor house where Fryderyk Chopin was born. The village lies in Mazovia, in the Sochaczew district, about fifty kilometres west of Warsaw. The site is cared for by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, and the park and the house form a single museum complex.

Plants

Nearly seven hectares hold thousands of species and varieties of trees, shrubs and perennials, both native and brought from abroad. Californian firs, maples, oaks, pines, willows, box, flowering quince, roses, hydrangeas and coneflowers grow here. Flower beds and a stream crossing the grounds complete the composition.

Music and visiting

Piano recitals and cultural events take place in the manor and in the park, in summer played outdoors near the composer's monument. Walking around the park itself takes about an hour, and it is worth staying longer when a concert is scheduled. The site charges admission.
