Nowe Planty is a municipal park in Chełmno, laid out in the hollow of the former moat that once ran along the eastern stretch of the medieval town walls. The ground drops in terraces, so the greenery is seen from several levels and the walls appear from an unusual angle. Entrances lead in from Dworcowa, Studzienna, Chełmno and Kamionka streets, and from here it is a short walk to Stare Planty park, the promenade and the market square.
The park is known for its extensive flower carpets, composed of seasonal plants and replanted through the year. A floral clock draws attention, and among the many benches stands the “Lovers’ Bench”, referring to Chełmno's image as the town of lovers. A viewing terrace takes in the whole layout.
This is a place for a short, quiet walk while exploring the old town – the paths are paved and comfortable with a pushchair, and there is no shortage of benches. The park works well as a break for families with children and as a starting point for further sightseeing in Chełmno.
