Stanisława Moniuszki 3, Lądek-Zdrój
The Forest Garden of Exotic Trees and Shrubs in Lądek-Zdrój covers 1.81 ha in the valley of the Jadwiżanka stream, on the slopes of the Złote Mountains, at an altitude of roughly 475 to 500 m. It is the highest-lying arboretum in the country, and the cooler mountain climate clearly shapes the choice and the appearance of the species grown here.
The garden gathers trees and shrubs of the temperate zone alongside species brought from more distant climates, arranged along forest paths. The collections of azaleas and rhododendrons make the strongest impression, turning the slope into a colourful mosaic at full bloom; perennials and ground-cover plants accompany them.
The arboretum grew out of a private passion, developed in cooperation with botanical gardens in Poland and abroad, and new plantings are still being added. Visits are made on foot over ground of varying steepness, so comfortable shoes are worth having. The garden complements a stay in the spa town and a trip into the Kłodzko Valley.
