A park in the Michałkowice district

Park Górnik lies in Michałkowice, one of the districts of Siemianowice Śląskie, and ranks among the most pleasant green spaces in this part of Upper Silesia. The grounds grew up around a former residence — the Rheinbaben palace — and have kept the clear layout of a historic park, with avenues, a pond and outbuildings.

What to see

A walk here takes you past the palace complex, a fountain, the old forester's and gardener's cottages and the Michałkowice Pond — an artificial reservoir fed with water from the former "Michał" hard coal mine. A separate attraction is the Grotto: a garden heaped up from rock, earth and stones, reached only by picking the right path.

Good to know

The paths were deliberately given different surfaces so that the walk stimulates the senses — an idea that works well when visiting with children. In the treetops you can easily spot magpies, starlings, blackbirds, orioles and cuckoos, while squirrels, hares and weasels dart between the trunks.
