Stanisław Staszic Municipal Park stretches through the very centre of Kielce, along Zamkowa Street at the foot of the hill with the Palace of the Kraków Bishops. Covering almost eight hectares, it ranks among the oldest public parks in Poland and still serves as the town's main promenade.
The composition centres on the pond known as Podzamecki, with a fountain whose nozzles are shaped like fish. Monuments and busts line the broad avenues, and at the edge of the park stands the small palace of Tomasz Zieliński; next to it is an aviary with rare bird species. The tree stock includes some 1,300 species and varieties of trees and shrubs – horse chestnuts, maples, limes, sycamores, elms and black locusts, some specimens over a hundred years old.
Three city trails – red, blue and green – run through the park, so the walk is easy to match to the time available. Admission is free, the paths are surfaced and accessible for pushchairs, and dogs on a lead are welcome. Around 40 minutes is enough to cross the grounds with a short pause by the pond.
