Adam Mickiewicz Oliwa Park, also known as the Abbots' Park, lies in the Oliwa district in the northern part of Gdansk, at the mouth of the Oliwa Stream valley. Its origins are linked to the Cistercian abbey, whose monks settled here in the 12th century; today's grounds of over eleven hectares rank among the most valuable historic gardens in Poland.
The park divides into clearly distinct sections: a formal French part with a pond and clipped hedges, a free-form Chinese-English part, a botanical garden with a palm house, and a Japanese garden. Around it stand the abbey buildings – Oliwa Cathedral with its famous organ, the New Abbots' Palace, the Abbots' Granary and the Saltzman Manor. In summer the park hosts open-air events, among them the Mozartiana series.
Entry to the park is free, the paths are surfaced and accessible for pushchairs; because of the garden's heritage status dogs are not allowed. Visiting the palm house is charged separately. An hour is enough for a walk through the main sections, clearly more for the whole site with the cathedral and museums.
