Manor ruins in the Suwałki region

The manor ruins in Stara Hańcza stand on a rise near Lake Hańcza, on the edge of the Suwałki Landscape Park. Of the former estate belonging to the Mirski princes, only fragments of walls and cellars remain, blended into the remnants of a 19th-century park layout. The site is listed in the register of monuments and legally protected.

What to see

The greatest value today lies not in the walls themselves but in the landscape — from the rise there is a view over Lake Hańcza, the deepest body of water in Poland, and the rolling hills of the region. In the former manor park the old compositional axes are still legible: the maple, lime and ash-maple avenues. An educational trail devoted to the trees and shrubs of the manor park begins here.

The surroundings

A blue hiking trail and cycling routes, including the eastern section of Green Velo, pass through the area. The ruins are an easy waypoint on a longer tour of the region. The site stays open and free of charge, but the ground is uneven — take care when exploring the remaining walls.
