Ul. 7 Kamienic, Częstochowa
The Jasna Góra Parks are a pair of grounds in Częstochowa – 3 May Park and Stanisław Staszic Park – stretching between the city centre and the Jasna Góra hill. They were created as a green setting for the route leading pilgrims to the monastery and still serve that role, while also being the largest walking area in the centre of the city.
Monuments and busts stand among the greenery, including those of Stanisław Moniuszko, Stanisław Staszic and Kazimierz Pułaski. One curiosity is a sundial that between 1889 and 1917 formed the base of the monument to Tsar Alexander II on the square in front of the monastery. Within the parks operate the Exhibition Pavilion of the Częstochowa Museum, the Iron Ore Mining Museum and an astronomical observatory, and a historic garden pavilion also stands here.
The layout of the avenues makes the parks the natural approach to Jasna Góra from the centre. Active visitors find tennis courts and wide running paths, families playgrounds and plenty of shade. Entry is free, the surfaces are firm and pushchair-friendly, dogs on a lead; an hour is enough to walk through both parks.
