Constitution of 3 May Park covers more than 16 hectares within Białystok and forms a key link in the city's system of green areas. It was laid out at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s and until 2009 was known as Zwierzyniec Park. Today it combines a recreational role with the proximity of cultural sites and places of remembrance.
The main draw is a small zoo where visitors can see European bison, a bear, horses, wild boar and other native species. A playground for children stands nearby. Immediately around the park lie a military cemetery and the building of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, which makes it easy to combine a walk with sightseeing.
The park links the walking routes running from the Old Park named after Prince Józef Poniatowski, through the Planty gardens, all the way to the Zwierzyniecki Forest — one can cross from the city centre to the municipal boundary entirely through green space. The paths are surfaced and accessible for prams, admission is free and dogs are welcome on a lead.
