The green heart of Tarnów

Park Strzelecki, also known as the Shooters' Garden, covers more than 8 hectares almost in the centre of Tarnów. Founded in 1866, it is one of the oldest park layouts in Lesser Poland. Its gates open onto Piłsudskiego, Słowackiego and Romanowicza streets, so anyone exploring the city on foot will find it easily.

What to see

The park's axis is the avenue leading to the pond, surrounded by shrubs and trees brought from places such as North America. A nature trail runs through the grounds, with stops beside the most interesting specimens: a plane tree, magnolias, an oak alley, a catalpa and a pergola planted with roses. The old-growth stand provides shade even on hot days.

Who it suits

This is a place for a quiet walk, a rest after sightseeing in the old town and for birdwatching — chaffinches, great tits, greenfinches, redstarts and yellowhammers nest here. The paths are surfaced, so prams cope well, and dogs are welcome.
