Ogród Zamkowy im. Ofiar Katynia i Sybiru lies in Poznań's Imperial District, in the very centre of the city. It was created together with the castle of Emperor Wilhelm II as its private grounds and for decades remained closed to residents. After restoration it was opened to visitors and its historic layout was brought back. Entrances lead in from Niepodległości Avenue and Fredry Street.
The garden falls into two parts. The first is an intimate garden salon with a semicircular square and a lime avenue, the second a formal Rose Garden with the Lion Fountain modelled on the Alhambra original. In the middle stretches a lawn circled by the main path with benches in the shade of tall limes. The planting includes rhododendrons, box, arborvitae, junipers, ivy and yews.
The garden holds the Katyń Monument, the Józef Kostrzewski bench and the sculpture „5 Figures” by Magdalena Abakanowicz. It makes a good stop for a short rest while exploring the centre of Poznań.
