Wieś Smoleń
The Education Centre in Smoleń belongs to the Landscape Parks Complex of the Silesian Voivodeship and serves the Eagles' Nests Landscape Park. It lies in the Zawiercie district, at the foot of the hill with the ruins of Pilcza Castle, among the limestone outcrops of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. It is a teaching base rather than a conventional museum.
Visitors have access to workshop rooms, a microscope laboratory and a historical and natural history exhibition. The programme includes workshops, talks, ecological campaigns, conferences and field classes on the nearby grasslands and in the forests. Theory is supported by experiments, which makes the sessions work well for school trips and family groups alike.
Next to the centre operates the „Jurajska Ostoja” accommodation and education complex, adapted to multi-day workshops and conferences. Group visits require arranging a date in advance. Smoleń is a good starting point for the Trail of the Eagles' Nests — the castle ruins and the nearby forest reserve are within walking distance.
