The Karkonosze Ecological Education Centre is run by the Karkonosze National Park in Szklarska Poręba, on Okrzei Street. It is a good place to begin a mountain trip: the exhibition organises knowledge about the living and non-living nature of the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains) on both the Polish and the Czech side of the border.
The main threads are glacial cirques, peat bogs and the fauna and flora of the mountain forests. The subjects are presented through a tactile relief model of the range, a slide show, film projections and multimedia presentations, with descriptions prepared in Polish, Czech, English and German. The centre has a projection hall, a temporary exhibition room and a library with a reading room.
Park educators lead lessons and workshops, both indoors and in the field, for school groups, students, teachers and individual tourists. On site you can buy maps, leaflets and publications about the Karkonosze, which makes planning routes before setting off easier. A visit usually takes about an hour.
