ul. Graniczna 2, Wolin
The Skansen Słowian i Wikingów stands on the bank of the Dziwna, right next to the town of Wolin in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is an extensive reconstruction of a port settlement from the era when the island was an important hub of Baltic trade. The site holds 27 thatched huts, two gates with defensive ramparts and a harbour waterfront with a landing stage.
The route leads between the craftsmen's workshops, where old techniques of working wood, antler, leather and metal are demonstrated. Moored at the pier is a replica of the boat Orzeł Jumne, which visitors can take out on the water. The site can be toured independently or with a guide, and groups may book workshops and field games.
The museum is at its liveliest in summer, during the season of experimental archaeology workshops and demonstrations. Its highlight is the Festival of Slavs and Vikings, which draws re-enactors from across Europe. Outside the season access may be limited, so it is worth arranging the date of a visit in advance.
