ul. Bunkrowa 1, Świnoujście
The lighthouse in Świnoujście measures 65 metres and is the tallest brick lighthouse in the Baltic Sea basin, counted among the tallest in the world. It stands on Bunkrowa street in the Warszów district, on the eastern bank of the shipping channel leading to the port.
The light was first lit in 1857 and the structure itself was then regarded as an admired feat of engineering. The tower was originally raised on an octagonal plan, but harsh weather conditions forced a rebuilding, and today we see a round form. The complex consists of three parts: the lighthouse tower and two buildings housing the radio beacon and the staff facilities.
The site is managed by the Maritime Office in Szczecin and is open to tourists. Steep stairs lead to the top, rewarded by a wide panorama of the port, the mouth of the Świna, the beaches and the island of Usedom. Along the way, displays show the former life of the keeper who lived here with his family and tended the light.
