The Kargul and Pawlak Museum operates in Lubomierz in Lower Silesia, in a townhouse right by the market square, as part of the Lubomierz Cultural Centre. It collects memorabilia from Sylwester Chęciński's trilogy about two feuding neighbours. The location is no accident — the Lubomierz square and the surrounding scenery appeared several times in the first part of the series, and the layout of the old town has changed little since.
The core of the display consists of props and set pieces, headed by a fragment of the famous fence — the one over which the cult line “Kargul, come to the fence” was shouted. Beside it sit a rifle, a grenade pinned to a festive suit and small items from the film set. A separate section holds documentation: stills, the first print of the film “Sami swoi” and the contract signed with the stand-in for the actor playing Kargul.
The town itself is the second attraction here — the preserved medieval street plan, the town hall and the arcaded houses form a backdrop recognisable from the screen. In summer Lubomierz hosts a comedy film festival. The surrounding Izera Foothills, with Lwówek Śląski and Gryfów Śląski, are a good reason for a longer stop.
