A historic match factory in Częstochowa

The Museum of Match Production occupies buildings of the former Częstochowa Match Industry Works on Ogrodowa street. It is the oldest match factory in Poland and the only museum of its kind in Europe operating inside original production halls.

What to see

Visitors are given access to exhibition rooms with a preserved production line from the 1930s. The historic machinery lets you follow the entire process of making a match, from the wooden splint to the head with its igniting compound. The technology has barely changed since production started here, so the machines still show what that work looked like.

Good to know

The museum also collects documents of the match industry and a collection of labels from the 1920s to the present day, many of them miniature works of applied graphic art. A separate attraction is the exhibition of Anatol Karon sculptures carved from a single match. The site lies close to the city centre and to Jasna Góra.
